Warthog Tusk Push-Style Cigar Holder/Divot Tool

Warthog Tusk Push-Style Cigar Holder/Divot Tool

SKU:

This cigar holder/divot tool is made from Warthog tusk ivory. Warthogs (Phacochoerus africanus) are native to most of Africa south of the Sahara and into east Africa. They are very sturdy animals that can weigh over 300 lbs and are able to withstand high body temperatures. This helps them conserve water that would normally be used for cooling and allows them to go for relatively long periods without water.

Warthogs rest, sleep, and escape predators by going into burrows, and although they are very good excavators they usually use the abandoned burrows of Aardvarks. In fact, it is unknown whether they inhabit areas without Aardvarks.

Warthogs grow four tusks, two on the top and two on the bottom. Although the upper tusks look the most impressive - strongly curved and growing up to 2 feet in length - the shorter ones on the bottom are the most dangerous as they are kept razor sharp by constantly rubbing against the upper tusk.

Like all ivories, Warthog tusk is very a very strong and dense material which takes an exceptionally smooth polish. This is a very sturdy divot tool which should last the lifetime of its owner.

I tried to keep this tool as natural looking as possible by using the tusk's natural curves and contours. An unusual feature of this particular tool is the way the tusk's natural hollow peeks through the thumb indent and exits out the cradle. Dimensions are approximately 2.5" long by 7/8" wide.
